Bought a Kindle on ebay last week on the strength that it had wireless 3G access.

This is the ad:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230625495042

I didn't exactly get an amazing deal, but I was happy enough to pay under retail. Got it in the post this morning however and I'm disgusted to find its a wifi only model. I've asked the seller was he aware of this but I haven't got a response yet (understandably, it's only been a few hours).

Looking at the ad above is there any way he could claim that I've misinterpreted the advert? The ad does clearly state - "This kindle is the 3G WiFi version".

This is an auction for an AMAZON KINDLE 3 Wi-Fi book reader. This kindle is the 3G WiFi version. It has had virtually no use and is is in excellent working condition - no books have been loaded onto the device.

Looks like the seller got confused about the Kindle 3 and wifi,
Assuming the 3 stood for 3G, his mistake and you shouldn't have to pay for it. If he doesn't reply, get onto ebay and lodge a complaint.

You could have bought one New on Amazon for €132 :S

Yeah, the wifi one :(
The 3G one works out at around €210 shipped (from the US, cant order from the UK).

Thought I was getting 30 quid off, faster shipping and a free case.

edit: Title also says "Amazon Kindle 3G / Wi-Fi", if it didnt have 3G there's no need to keep using "3G" throughout the ad.

Ah, i see.

Yeah, it's definitely not your fault, the person advertised it as something it wasn't. Keep us posted on when you hear back from the seller.

Seller just replied:

"No I was not awear what's the dif in price ?"

I'm going to try to return it rather than get a partial refund, I'm only interested in the 3G model.

Edit: Actually what do you guys think? Should I accept a partial refund and try to sell it on (there's nothing wrong with it, its just not the model described), or post it back myself and hope I get a refund for postage?

Depends on your needs, i would send it back as the 3g version is much better (Free :D)
but if you download your books at home or at a hotspot, then read offline, suppose it could work well

Yeah, I'm only interested in the 3G version myself.
But I could get a partial refund and sell it on if the seller gets a hump about paying the return postage.

What a mess altogether :(

You will have to pay for return delivery, by registered post.
