Ordered a small few attachments for my gun online. Went onto track and trace and it says the item has been sent to customs? Anyone know what the story is? Will I have to pay a fortune to get them?

If you got them internationally there most likely will be a fee

You may have to pay VAT 21%

You may have to pay VAT 21%

on top of the 20%? Im so confused:confused:

I paid vat when I bought them. It cost 200 euro roughly and they came from Hong Kong. I didn't realise there were custom costs or I wouldn't have bothered...20% is 40 euro. It's probabily going to work out more expensive

    No you didn't.
If you're purchase is worth €200, you'll pay €48 roughly (VAT and An Post Charge. So you'll be looking at €248 in total.

You couldn't have payed VAT if they were bought from Hong Kong. VAT (Value Added Tax) is charge by the Irish government at 21.5%. There may also be charges by your courier on top of that, maybe 10%.

Im as confused now as I was before ha ha. I paid some sort of tax anyway. I suppose I'll have to wait from customs to see how much I owe them.
Thanks anyway for all your help:)

VAT is payable at point of entry into the EU. Duty is also payapble

so say you brought something for 200 euro

200 * 1.14 (Duty for electricla goods is 14%) *1.21 (vat Rate)= 275.88 + handling charge= so you could be looking at about 90 euro.

    it keeps getting worse:confused:

There doesn't seem to be any concrete info on it so I'll just have to wait and see I mean 90 to bring something in is a big crazy. Its only a tracer unit and bbs so its not like its a huge amount.

    I have a feeling 90 is a bit off..I hope i'm right. 40-50 I could just about manage

If its coming via UPS or TNT or Fedex, it will be 21% VAT plus between €10 and €16 for clearance fees.

If its coming via EMS it will be 21% VAT plus (I think) €6.50 clearance fees.

Duty is only sometimes applied, and it can vary wildly between items - Theres a huge list of categories, and the one applied to your goods can be anything from toys (0%) to electrical goods (14%) - it depends on the opinion of the officer clearing them.

Packages may take 3 days to get from HK to Ireland and as soon as they hit Irish shores can be
sitting someplace for a week :O

Also something to note, if you don't see it getting released from Customs after about 3 days, you may get a Letter in the post from Customs/Revenue with
a Parcel reference number, asking you to provide a paypal email receipt or
proof of the total amount you paid for the items.

Once you forward your paypal receipt email to them this or fax and print out to
them this it should be released same day
providing everything is legal (ie no green lasers etc which have import restrictions)

sometimes customs will ask for this, It may be because they don't believe
the value of the items as sometimes Hong Kong company's will mark the item as a gift or mark the price lower than its actual value.

i guess the lesson to learn is shop locally. Or even within the eu where the tax is included in the price

A tracer unit isn't readily available in this country from Irish retailers AFAIK,
So he would need to have one imported by a retailer which would mean its just as likely to get stopped by customs and the retailer has to up the price to cover the cost of importing anyway,
Sometimes you have to go abroad to get the finer things, but because they're the finer things, you pay the finer prices:)

As already stated tracer units are difficult to find also the 4 items i bought cost 200 from Hong Kong. In Ireland it would have been 300+. Even to save a little bit is good.

I do usually buy all my items from MIA or other Irish sites but there are somethings you do need to look abroad for
