NCT retest + Cracked windscreen..

    Simple question really..

I failed my NCT last week on the focusing of my left headlight, which i have since gotten fixed. My retest is on Thursday. However, yesterday, a crack has somehow appeared on my windscreen. You can't miss it, and it is a bout a foot and a half, to two feet long.

Since I have already passed all the other categories of the NCT, and technically I'm only there to get my headlight retested, can I be failed?

    Cheers in advance!

If your within the 28days of the original test you should be fine, they will just test the head light. But get it sorted ASAP, cause if its in the field of view it will drive you mad...

Nah, its not that annoying, its a crack going straight down the center of the screen. I joked about putting some white duct tape over it and pretending it was a racing stripe :P

On a serious note though, I am within the 28 days. My original test was on the 17th. I just really don't want to fail on this, as my car is a 99, so if I do fail, then i have to restart the test process, meaning my car will fall into the annual disc category. I need the two years! :)

I honestly would have thought this could result in a fail on the retest, one of the guys I work with was failed over...I think it was a worn track rod end on drivers side, which he had replaced and was then failed for a worn track rod end on the passengers side for the retest, might have just been a stickler though

You will fail the test if the screen is badly cracked.

They cannot pass a car thats not road worthy

Also, I would highly recommend you get the crack sorted ASAP

Ok, so worst case scenario, I fail the retest on the windscreen. Obviously, no equipment is needed to tell whether the screen is cracked or not, so will I be given the option of coming back within 28 days of the original test again (Monday, June 13th), with a new windscreen? Or will I have to start over?

no, you can go back. Screen is just visual...

Also, you will have to pay since it's your headlight but the windscreen you shouldnt

yes , visual inspection is free

if you haven't changed the windscreen by now I'm assuming it's not covered on your insuance ( if it is check that it doesn't affect your no claims )

It's cheaper to go to the windscreen centres and pay cash than get the lads in a van out. Might have to wait a few days if they need to order a windscreen in for you.
