Would Black Knights "Minimus" package suffice for our needs?

We are looking to set up a fairly basic, static website to promote our business. We would need to have:
    - Company logo & professional logo
    - About us & services provided
    - Links to associated partners
    - Map for locating us
    - Information will be very static & little updating required once the content is finalised
    - NO ecommerce or sellling required

Black Knight have recommended their Minimus package, which is only €45 for the fIrst year.

Would this end up looking very generic or would it be worth getting someone to develop the site for us? If we got someone to develop a site, approx how much would it cost (based on what we need above).

Yes that hosting package would certainly suffice for what you need.

However, that only grants you the hosting of a website, you still need an actual website designed and developed.

Customers are turning more and more to the web now when trying to find a product or service, leaving the likes of the golden pages behind. Investing in a well built site is a sensible way of ensuring customers can find you, and doing so now will put you that much ahead of the competition.

The costs of this can vary depending on the quality you are after. If you want something of substantial quality that will stand you out from the competition you'll have to invest a bit more. For what you are after you should expect to pay around €1,000, depending on your design requirements, but again it comes down to the designers you approach - some will charge significantly less, others more.

Shop around and go with someone you feel has a solid portfolio and a strong eye for design, and someone who is communicative and on the same level as you are in terms of your ambition with the project.

Think about Blacknight being the landlord of a shop. After renting the premises, it is up to you to create the logo and make the shop window look pretty or hire someone else to do it for you. If Blacknight is the landlord of your website then web designers are the window-dressers.

The landlord typically is only interested in renting you the space. It is up to you to fill it. For this you will need to either create the website yourself (for example, there are various free wysiwyg website creators out there) or get someone to do it for you. I happen to be one of those latter people ;) and there is a thread here dedicated to other such talented folks.

If you don't have a designer & developer you should look at squarespace, will have everything you need there!

As others have said, this package will give you a page that says "this domain has been reserved for a client" or words to that effect.

However I did a little extra searching and the package includes installs for Joomla / Drupal / Typo3 so there's something there to build a site with, if someone is savvy enough re the web.

This will look very generic, though, unless you have someone who knows enough to really work the options and available plug-ins.

I would be worried that you're including the company logo within the spec for the website, though......while a website should use the same logo & colours for brand recognision, it's usually a separate task (albeit sometimes within the same design house) and is definitely not something that Blacknight do.

Yea, that will have more than enough space for you. They have a Website builder package for you but for a professional business you will get a good return from a properly developed website. One or two clients from a Website and it is paid for.

    Great,

Thanks for the feed back, will look at getting a pro to design/develop the site.

It won't be a revenue generating site as no ecommerce/sales, but I do want a professional image portrayed.

Will sort out my "landlord" & "window dressing" - that was a lovely simple way to put it that even I understand !! Thanks
