Hi all, sorry this is a very selfish thread I just need your help. Does anyone have any idea where I could get a cheap-ish (yet still quite good obviously) GHD which I need to buy as a present this week?

Are you looking for an actual GHD or just a similar type of hair straightener?

Oh sorry I thought that was just the generic name for them?

Well a similar type I suppose, Where would be a good place to get them without paying a bucketload?

I find that remington does a good dupe of the GHD. I got a remington straightener before my GHD and if my GHD breaks in the next while I would DEFINITELY go back to remington.

I have a Ghd and Remington and I much prefer the remington. I have the shine therapy one...I bought it on Amazon but you can get it in argos too.....there are a lot of GHD snobs out there who will insist that nothing can be better than the GHD (because GHD was the original ceramic plated straightener) but there are many that are just as good, if not better because they have temperature control etc...

Obviously there are some people who genuinely do think the GHD are the best and have compared them to others and still find them better than the rest so that GHD snobs comment was not aimed at you guys I'm talking about the people who don't even give the other brands a chance and just insist that nothing will ever come close to the GHD!

Just beware that if you've promised someone (especially if it's a girlfriend or something) a GHD and you get them a different sort of hair straightener they may be a little bit disappointed...

Nicky Clarkes are fantastic definately what I'd recommend

My sister has a Nicky Clark one and its really good, tend to rob hers more than using my GHD. I think GHDs are great, but I've had three (I'm on my 3rd) and two broke and my sisters haven broken too!- I don't know maybe we're just very rough with them!

I do agree though because before I realised other hair straighteners were as good if not better than GHDs I would have been disgusted if someone handed me a different straightener when they promised me a GHD! Although now I'd be just as happy with most of the hair straighteners around!

Sorry to hijack, but I'm looking for a decent straightener for myself. Wouldn't even consider GHD cos of the price but was looking at some of the Remington and Babyliss models on Argos.

Anybody have any experience of the babyliss ones? I have thick course hair that needs plenty of taming so need something fairly "industrial":D

Some salon services and hair dressers sell KODO straightners, another good dupe of a GHD.

I wouldn't trust anything bar my GHD (for now) remington or kodo.

For the cheapy cheap, go for remington, good value for money....and sexy hair!

I have this Babyliss one ARGOS and I think it's brilliant! The plates are a bit big now that my hair is chin length unfortunately. It gets really hot so I think that's what makes it so good, it would hurt to touch my hair afterwards sometimes

My GHD is on the blink lately. Need to invest in a new straightner but won't be forking out for the GHD again.

Must try out one of the remmington ones.

That's the one I was looking at, and one of the remingtons mentioned above, the one for about €50.
I have thick, coarse, longish hair so the thicker the plates the easier for me:D

I was going to get this one before but then someone mentioned it can make your hair look greasy because it puts some sort of shiny stuff on your hair, is this true?

Sometimes I have to go over some parts of my hair 2-3 times (especially the ends) would I end up with a greasy head?

I straighten my hair maybe once a week or once every two weeks.

No it' not true, there's supposed to be some kind of oil embedded into the plates but it definitely doesn't make mine greasy...it's an amazing straightener.

There is a matching hair dryer which does squirt shiny stuff onto your hair (which I also love) but the hair straightener itself doesn't leave anything on mine!
