    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before but I have only just come across the forum.

I am unable to access secure websites on my HTC Desire (Android 2.2, Webkit 3.1) for banking, betting or online payments. It presents an error message about the network connection but I can access other nonsecure websites.

Is there a fix for this?

What browser? Have you tried another, Skyfire, Dolphin HD?

The phone identifies the browser as Webkit 3.1. I thought the browser was integrated into Android and not interchangeable.

Are there better browsers out there?

Yes, there are many, lots recommend Skyfire as being very fast, a decent browser.

There is also Opera and Mirren, I've not tried these though

Myself, I much prefer Dolphin HD as it has addons, like the lastpass and xmarks addons, I can sync my passwords and bookmarks from chrome on my other pc's. They also do a stripped down Dolphin Mini which is very quick.

Thanks very much for that, I'll give them a try.

You should be able to view https pages with the stock browser, what network are you on? Can you view these pages over WiFi?

I've tried them all at this stage and I have to say Mirren appears to be the best imo.

Is this via 3G or on Wifi, if you can view them on Wifi but not 3G, then your network has blocked the site (which may be inadvertent) I have had Vodafone unblock a couple of websites in the past.

I'm with O2 and it appears only to be happening on 3G, WIFI seems to be fine. I had thought that it was sorted but it stopped letting me access secure sites at the weekend.

Does this just keep recurring after a while, or is there a permanent fix?

If it works on wifi, but not 3G, then your network are blocking it and you need to talk to them.

Try posting on the Talk to O2 forum here, they will likely want to know specific websites, and give them a specific time when you could access it over wifi, but not over 3G.

At least they should be able to give you a reason, and hopefully they will sort it out for you
