I would appreciate if somebody could please clarify something for me.

I am a mature student who has been in receipt of BTEA and a grant for the last few years.

I intend to go on and do a Masters, but my county council have now told me that if i do that all i will be entitled to will be to get my fees paid and that i wont receive any maintenance grant to live on. ( despite the fact that i will not be receiving any BTEA payments once i finish as an undergrad )

    Surely they are mistaken ?

If thats the case i dont see how i or anybody can do a Masters as its a full time 1 year course, and i will have no other income and will not be able to look for anything except P/T work .

I understand that as a postgrad I will no longer be eligible for the BTEA but surely i am still eligible for a maintenance grant, and not just fees.

So much confusion and misinformation..replies appreciated.

Yes; you are eligible as a postgraduate student for a maintenance grant

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

what has changed for mature students is that those who are deemed independent mature will no longer receive a higher payment.

Actually it means they won't automatically be entitled to the full non adjacent rate. They can still get it, but they must satisfy all criterea required
