Perfect Watch for your Wedding Day

Would really appreciate any thoughts on what you guys would consider a good watch for wearing as groom on the big day. I have a few decent watches already but they are all quite chunky and large and not ideal with suit cuffs. I would like to get something thinner and classic with a leather strap that I can wear again formally and casually. I've been thinking of the Breitling Navitimer with black face and leather strap. (I'll also be heading to NY for a few days soon enough so I may look at picking something up over there)

[heresy] that might be the one day where you might not wear a watch at all and concentrate on other things [/heresy]

alternatively, something along the lines of this http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=72401388&postcount=9

    Got a budget in mind?

Budget is max €4,000. I don't mind buying second hand at all.
I've been looking at the Liminor Marina, IWC Portuguese and the Navitimer mostly.

In my humble the IWC is the only one in that lineup that would work with formal attire. The others are more "tool watches". Especially the panerai.

That's a nice budget to have especially when heading to NY.

You should check out this store when you're over there, there's 4 floors of watches and they cover pretty much every major brand.

An IWC Portuguese would be a nice choice. My favourite is the Rose Gold with 7 day power reserve. It's twice the budget though so that's of no help sorry. I'd go to that Tourneau shop and have a good look around, you'll definitely find something you like in that budget.

First off that IWC Portuguese will set you back at least twice your budget!
The Portuguese Steel Chrono rather than the 7 day may be bought 2nd hand for your budget.
I would seriously look at Jaeger le Coultre Ultra Thin or Reverso as well.
Also would recommend a Glashutte Original Senator ( I have one- a beauty), perhaps an Omega deVille or hour vision.

I'll second a Jaeger Reverso. Fits the bill perfectly for wedding day attire

A good example Navitimer here and it's under budget.

An Aqua Terra with a leather strap. Solid movement too.

The Reverso Gyrotourbillon. Possibly the most beautiful watch ever. I'd be short $296,000 tho. Maybe they take IOU's???:)

Whatever you wear, buy it used. Let some other sucker take the depreciation incurred by walking out of a shop with it. As much as I'd love to buy brand new, my mean streak kicks in at the thought of losing a grand or so in value in a matter of minutes. :pac:

Absolutely love that watch Cyrus, really classy. Same one is £4650 on watchfinder second hand, still a bit pricey though. There's another lovely one there too with gold hands and numerals for £3,700. Think I will def go down the pre-owned route as Monty commented, much better value to be had. Thanks for all the comments and advice. Much appreciated.

Definitely go preowned unless you are minted, as I said earlier I own a Glashutte Original Senator Panoramadatum, bought it on TZUK for around €2,300. Watch is about 5 years old and spotless, to buy new today the same watch is over €5k.
Actually avoiding the likes of Rolex and IWC (who hold their value) you will get a very classy watch from lesser known brands for realtive buttons out there.
I have seen Girard Perregaux, Zenith and JLC watches fro crazy prices recently. Seems tool watches and divers are all the rage and the dress watches are less in demand.

This. It's a good time to buy in that design category. Same with the vintage market. EG I remember when IWC military stuff was far cheaper than the same movement in a dress watch. How things change.

What about a Rolex Explorer 1 or a Glashutte Sixties?

Both are discreet and will fit under a shirt cuff.
