    Hi guys,
So we have all heard about putting lemons in your hair to lighten it naturally. I am just wondering if any of ye have done this. In the summer months my hair will brighten up a bit from the sun (My hair is not dyed).

Or does have anyone else have any methods/products for lightening my hair colour without damaging or drying it out. I am afraid lemon would attract bees! To make things more practical I would get some of that Jif stuff and put some in an spritzer thingy.

Anyway here are some pics of me, these are the ones that show my hair most like to what it is in real life. Please ignore all other content

Lemon has never worked for me.

    You could try sun-in

i have never heard anything but bad stories from anyone about sun-in. if you want to dye your hair, just dye it. leaving it up to sun-in, gives you a very unpredictable result.

I'm naturally a dirty blonde with lighter hair down the length of it darker on top. Natural highlights with some of them being close to platinum but underneath in the winter it's darker. I wanted to lighten the bits on top of my head and just brighten it overall to achieve the way it looks after the summer.

I couldn't see your photos so I don't know what colour hair you have so I'm just gonna go by what I did and you can decide based on your own hair colour.

I heard really bad things about Sun In. I don't know if it deserves those comments but it seems to be almost universally unpopular.

I used John Freida Go Blonder Lightening Spray and it was absolutely fantastic. It claims that you see results in 3-7 applications and I actually saw results after the first go. I've actually stopped using it now after the third time as I've already achieved the desired result. Maybe it's because I started as quite light in the first place but I'm so delighted! It looks great and I've still got my natural highlights and everything which are just a little bit lighter and where I wanted to lighten most, the hair around my head is looking great and has seamlessly blended with the rest.

I have to admit I was pretty scared to interfere with my hair as I've never coloured it in any way in case I could never get it back and most of my friends discouraged me from putting any type of colour in it. I wanted the after summer appearance though instantly and I have to say I'm shocked at how effective this product is.

I highly recommend it and it's only 10 in Boots :D

I have it but haven't used it yet, I got if for €4 something in Hickeys pharmacy, I thought it was 33% off but maybe it was half price if it's 10 in boots!

It was actually €4.60, normally €6.89 in Unicare!!

I got the John Frieda lightening spray the day after I started this thread. I saw it and thought it was a coincidence so I stretched the budget and got it with the John Frieda conditioning spray for 2 for €9 in Boots.

I think I have used it 3-4 times too, and the difference is major! Very good. And my hair is in good condition as I have been using the conditioning spray aswell. There was a noticable lightening after the first use, which I wasn't expecting.

Saying that, I have only used a hair dryer once, natural drying in the glorious heat these last few days:D I imagine I would be brighter if I used a dryer/straightner as suggested.

Anywho, I will use for the suggested 7-10 days(if i remember correctly) and post pics so ye can see the before and after.

    Thanks for the replies :)

P.s. I don't think this would be a good idea for coloured hair, I imagine it wouldn't be as affective/I wouldn't risk it!

How do these types of products work in dark hair? I have very dark hair, see attachment. But during the summer I get kind of natural coppery highlights when I spend time in the sun. Obviously using the JF blonde one isn't going to make me blonde, but would it make my auburn colours come through more if I used it? Or would I just be wasting my money? Or even better, is there something similar specifically for darker hair? :)
