Leibher Announce sponsorship for the Irish open

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/golf/boost-for-irish-open-2660631.html
This year's Irish Open is to have a new title sponsor. Killarney-based Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd are expected to give a special dimension to the concept of local support with a major investment in a second successive staging on the Killeen Course (July 28-31).

Good to hear that it's being sorted. After 3 left the scene, it looked difficult but goes to show that in the current economic climate it's not a high profile company that takes up the mantle.

    Best of luck to them.

Liebherr would be hugely prominent in the construction industry.

But aside from that, this news is great for Killarney, Munster and Ireland, some 82,000 people attended this event last year over the course of the 4 days, I think it was the second largest attended event on the Euro Tour only just behind The PGA at Wentworth which had 88,000.

This is also huge for Tourism in Ireland, as the Irish Open last year was broadcasted to 394 millon homes worlwide..........................

Its great news alright, even if we have a prize fund of 2.5 million like what it was when it
was held in Adare. It is a massive boost for the Irish Open, but hopefully the Worlds top
players now can follow suit and show up in Killarney in late July.

John Daly is definitely not playing there this year and Luke Donald never plays there but I would expect Westwood and Kaymer to commit, also isn't Padraig Harrington hosting it so he might be able to pull a few big names from the US Tour which would be great!

I wouldn't be expecting players like Donald, Casey or Poulter as they play very
few events in Europe. Would be great to see Kaymer and Westwood, possibly
Justin Rose & Matteo Mannasero might come back again this year.
Its very hard to know who will turn up as the date on the calender is still quite an
awkward one for the worlds elite to turn up for.
Stuck two weeks after the British Open and the week before the WGC Bridgestone.

Rose only came chasing late Ryder Cup points last year. Doubt he will make the trip this year.
The top Irish pros plus Westwood & Kaymer would be the best they could hope for I reckon.

As long as Miguel Ángel Jiménez is there I will be a happy man. :D

Well if they come then there will be big world ranking points on offer because you would have 4 of the top 6 in the world(currently) playing so that might entice more players to come especially if they are trying to get into the following weeks WGC!?

This year I reckon I can only make it on the Friday but would love to follow Jimenez or even Olazabal because he seems to be getting his game back!!

I hope a few of his Ryder Cup lookalikes turn up and follow him round :)

Just head on radio that these reports are not correct, they won't be the title sponsor. They will have some type of affiliate sponsor role but they're not committing to be main sponsor
