Car Tax Online

Have always done my car tax online however the mother seems to have thrown out the letter with my PIN on it. Theres a facility on the website to have it emailed to you when you enter your reg and address. However, no matter what way I put in my details it says they are wrong. They are certainly right, so I'm wondering does this service even work?

    Anyone any experience with it?

My experience is no pin, best fill in the form and head for the office TBH.

They never even bothered to send me the pin this year. Cheers tax office.

The form is easy to fill in to be fair. It is handier to do it online but the tax office is a joke organisation from my dealings with them. Slow and couldn't give a crap about the customers.

Just get upset at having to do work when you bring the form into them but aren't capable of getting a pin to you so you can do it online from my experience this year.

    I'm a people person :P

Not impressed with this craic at all. Why have the 'forgotten PIN' link when it doesn't work? Typical public service I suppose.

Where do ya get the form, inside in the office?

If you ring them they'll give you a new one. Happened to me before too and that's what happened !

The forgotten pin link works, however as I found out not at the weekend for some reason . You should get an email tomorrow with the new pin.

They don't give a PIN over the phone anymore, I phoned them and waded through all the automated BS only to eventually hear the recorded message say they don't give out renewal PINs over the phone.

What's the worst someone is going to do? Pay your car tax for you? :pac: :D

Print out the form and post it to your local tax office. Saves a few hours getting there and queuing.

The forgotten PIN link does work, I used it myself to tax a car we recently purchased, We never got the PIN in the post, probably went to the previous owner but when we typed in all the requested info I got an email with a new PIN.

Just piled into the office and told the lass the reg and she sorted it out, didn't bother with the form.

Worked for me about 3 weeks ago, the email with the new PIN was practically instant.

TBH it seems like some pseudo-automated system that requires manual operation behind the scenes.

It is the only logical conclusion I can come to with all the mixed results. Either that or it is a crap system that goes down if there isn't someone there to click the stay alive prompt/restart the server.

Either way it is unacceptable that people have such mixed results with the system. In 2010, it worked flawlessly for me and in 2011, I don't get a pin sent out to me. There seems to be a bug in the system or else someone is sending all the letters manually and cutting corners/making lots of errors.

The forgotten Pin worked for me today. Not that it caused any great happiness as it meant I had to pay, no excuse.

Just tried it to see would it work, and it does! After I've paid...
