Ireland in recent years have become safe haven for criminals from other countries.
What can be done by our government to bring in measures to block these entries.
Australia has a questionare of past criminal offences and instant checks.
I think it should become mandatory for people traveling to obtain garda police references or clearance etc.. in order to travel or emigrate. And time frame ofc should be taken in to account. So therefore if the authorities here or where ever can deny them entry.
Just reading about this on line now.
On side note keep your eyes open for him.Reward.

THE chief suspect for the murders of four members of a Chinese family in Britain may have slipped through a security net and escaped to Ireland.

    Tougher immigration policies are needed.

What same goes for Irish going out of the country,We have so many of our own home grown ones who run to other countries. They shouldn't be able to do that either.

Try reading a paper now and again.

    http://www.tribune.ie/news/article/2010/nov/14/more-than-300-overseas-criminals-fled-here-in-2009/

MORE than 300 criminals from abroad fled to Ireland last year in the hope of avoiding prosecution and jail in their home countries.

The Department of Justice has confirmed it received 326 European arrest warrants last year, including more than a dozen concerning people suspected of murder and rape.

More than half of the warrants came from Poland, from where 177 suspected criminals fled to Ireland in 2009.

In all, 15 people were sought to face charges of either murder or grievous bodily harm, figures from the department have shown.

Another 12 extradition warrants related to "sexual offences including rape and sexual abuse of children", it has emerged.

    .........

That states a number of people fled here two years ago, and that there were warrants for same. Nowhere does it state or imply that "Ireland in recent years have become safe haven for criminals from other countries." (sic).

We signed up to free movement via the EU so thats hardly possible.

Secondly, as the country has not become a "safe haven for criminals from other countries" it isn't necessary.

It's not a problem though. A lot of people seem to have this perception that Ireland is a safe haven for scum of all sorts and we basically live in a modern Wild West. We have it pretty good here, not much to worry about.

I'd change the laws about our own ones legging it first.

Yes, we should be able to stop known thugs and convicted criminals coming in, but then we'd have to accept the likes of David Drumm or the remaining on-the-run murderer of Jerry McCabe back, and have prison space for them.

What about focusing on our own homegrown criminals, like some Bankers for example?

You mean like, a passport or something?

Ireland is fifth or sixth in the list. Poland issues a disproportionate number of warrants in comparison to every other EU country. The European Arrest Warrant system was made after 9/11 and intended for speedy extradition between member states of dangerous criminals. Poland has issued warrants for pig rustling, mobile phone theft and, my favorite, stealing a chocolate bar.

It is also worth remembering that, being democracies, people are innocent until proven guilty. Just because a warrant has been issued for their arrest doesn't actually mean they are criminals. That's why lawyers and judges get paid so much money, to help decide who is a criminal and who isn't.

Ireland is hardly Europes Mexico, I don't see it as a current problem and I reckon it would be a waste of time money and effort, as stated it would be better to spend our money bringing our criminals like the three pictured above back

@CaseyAnn, the other casual racist thread you contributed to was locked, so did you think to yourself "I'll start another". You might sod off to politics.ie, they are a bit more tolerent of this kind of thing there.

So, as I said previously, "In before the lock" - as this thread is not worthy of boards.ie.

Mods; could we have a "casual racist" thread of the day sticky so I can find them more easily. Thanks.

You realise that if we did this then other countries would impose the same requirement on us? Have fun getting your garda clearance cert for going shopping in Newry.

This is an unbelievably silly suggestion, based on no real evidence, in conflict with multiple treaties, and generating a large amount of not unwarranted derision. I can't really see any reason to keep it open, but am open to persuasion by PM.

    moderately,
    Scofflaw
