Just wondering if any tradespeople have experience of using this site?

My boyfriend is a self-employed carpenter, and he's reluctant to pay the €165 initial fee unless there's a fairly good chance that he'll get a few jobs out of it. Is it worth the money?

And also, are you supposed to quote for the leads without even seeing the job - i.e. just based on what the customer tells you?

    Thanks for any information!

Waste of time. Can't go into details but I wouldn't go near it again. I love the figure of £165. Purely random. It's just to put his name on a list with a whole load of other carpenters. Its a stupid concept in that it allows a client to get 10 quotes for a job without any effort. Avoid.

like all advertisement, it will work for some and not for others

I have not direct experience of the site but there are alot of similar sites out there and they all charge in some way or other.

There is no guarantee of work with any form of advertisement

I've used it as a customer and found it great....as said though, from my point of view, it was a good way to get quotes with minimum effort.

In my case, they all came out to see the job. I insisted on it, they wanted to anyway. I have construction experience and I prefer talking through work face-to-face with the guys in question, so we're both clear on what's wanted and what they're offering.

I will say that I couldn't hire any of them as my financial circumstances took a turn for the worse shortly after, but I have held onto their names and numbers and as soon as I can, I'll be calling one of them back to give them the job.

works well for customer (just fishing), as no cost to them.
not over impressed been a tradesman using it though,
as you have to pay for their fishing. each time.
although in fairness to trad/men .ie they do give refunds, and if they only charged customers as well, may cut ou the time wasters.

Avoid like the plague. While they do refunds, your boyfriends time will be worth a lot more than the €5-6 per call out. 90% of the customers are shopping by price, so its really a race to the bottom, IMO.

Yeah that's the way I was thinking - my boyfriend would never price any job without measuring it up and having a chat with the customer first. The idea of doing it all online seems a bit mad really! Grand if you weren't too worried about the quality of the work I suppose though.

My experience of this is it works for certain trades in certain area's for example a DIY man in trim

But forget about it if your a plumber in dublin. They also charge a preferential fee ie they phone you after a while and say "Had no luck..want to pay an additional fee for preferential treatment."

You don't really do it online...I found they asked a lot of questions online, but the men I applied to rang me the minute they got my request to make an appointment to come out and see what I wanted done. There's no way any tradesmen worth their salt is going to price a job based on a generic online questionnaire - is there??

I can see how it would be an expense for tradesmen though. But really, it's quite like how tenders are awarded in construction to companies. The details of a job are sent out, the company pulls together a tender (at their own expense), sends it in with a price, and then one is chosen based on their tenders and prices. To me, tradesmen.ie works the same way on a much smaller scale. You offset the expense against what you might gain from it. It could be viewed as being better than sitting around waiting for the work to come to you...

    Just my 2 cents.

got three or four small 50.00 jobs out of them.in 9 months,
    in fairness to them.
but at end of the day still sitting on the fence whether to stay or go. as a lot of time wasters( potential clients) picking your brain, and you been charged for these so called leads. a lot of them are really a waste of time.should charge them to elliminate the time wasters.

I was with them for a while. I got 2 small second fix carpentry jobs from it.

Which paid for the fees .

You get texts everyday from people wanting prices for jobs. The problem is that most people are not serious about getting work done .
They just want to see how much it will cost without calling anyone. I got out as it was a waste of my fuel and time. Onlinetradesman.ie was the one I was with.
