The ISSF is pleased to announce the launch of the IOC/ISSF National Training Systems Development Project. This two-year project has been developed in co-operation with the International Olympic Committee’s IF Development Programme and the ISSF Training Academy.

The project has been specifically designed to educate coaches, national officials and development staff of member federations in the preparation and understanding of the requirements to deliver a systematic training programme for national teams. At the end of the project, participants should be capable of initiating and overseeing a National Training System to a professional level that will enable member federations and athletes to participate in the Olympic Games.

The project is conducted in two parts; each part is conducted over a calendar year using a mixture of distance learning combined with a four day residential project. Part I of the project will take place in the ISSF Accredited Training Centre (www.kuortane.com) in Kuortane, Finland from the 27th of November until 2nd of December 2011.

Speaking of the project, ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said: “The ISSF is committed to assisting our member federations in developing the shooting sports at a national level. The importance of participation at the Olympic Games to member federations and their athletes is understood and appreciated throughout the ISSF community. Through our very successful ISSF Training Academy and with the support of the IOC IF Developmentprogramme, this project will guide and lead the trainers and managers of federations through the processes involved in establishing a professional and systematic training system to lead their athletes to participation at the Olympic Games.”

The project will cover a wide area of study including building coaching teams, the structuring of training sessions, performance planning, talent identification and the financing of high performance sport.

The closing date for application is Thursday, 30th June 2011.

Demand for this project is expected to be high and member federations are encouraged to apply early for this project as places will be limited to 20 participants. Financial support to attend the project may be available from the ISSF through the IOC IF Development Programme

Invitations have been sent out to all ISSF Member Federations. Applications can be sent to ISSF Headquarters by using the registration form attached to the invitation. For more information please see the ISSF Development Website under www.issf-sports.org/development.ashx
