Stickies?

There used to be more stickies? What happened to them? There was one about sexual predators online and another with links to various threads.

The admins requested that the number of stickies for each forum be reduced to around 3.

And you guys just dumped these without a thought. Last time I was on this forum there was at least one poster trying to contact adolescent young boys/men for the purposes of "support".

Thanks for pruning the stickies. I access the mobile version of Boards a lot, and it would made browsing terribly tedious.

Ya, I drop by for my usual look around and I see a thread about stickies and a ton of them missing. At first I was like   then I was like 'I see' ;)

Why not just have one sticky thread linking to all the previous sticky threads?

I guess that means no chance of getting a sticky thread recomending LGBT books both fiction and non-fiction?

Tbh, only 3 stickies are needed:

    1. Charter
    2. Resources
    3. Interesting threads links

I agree! Especially about the interesting threads link, would be very valuable when the search function is disabled in the LGBT forum.

Is the search function to be disabled? o_Ó

It is disabled. Has been for years.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Ah, but that's not reflective of what is actually stickied.

I know; it was a suggestion.

Maybe a sub forum of super threads, and high interest threads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

Nah, there's no precedent for that bar After Hours, which is afaik the most frequented forum on Boards. Subforums are for when a certain kind of topic starts to overwhelm the main forum, like the Roads subforum of Infrastructure.

Makes sense. In forums where you can search for previous posts on topics of interest. But this forum does not allow searches and often has the same topics coming up again and again, but newer or more infrequent boardies may not be aware of this.

If there was a link between repeat threads or a way that searches of the forum could be used for genuine members of the forum maybe that would make a difference?

Yeah, honestly I think the search function should be reenabled. At any rate, the new and improved (!) Boards search function at the top of the page allows searching of the LGBT forum for specific users' posts, which ironically is probably "worse" than what the lack of search function here is meant to achieve.

I did not realise you could now search within LGBT for posts by individual boardies... mmmm

You are right, that is more suspect than just being able to search by a topic/key words

Mm that bit me in the ass the other week, somebody in my class quoted me on something slightly embarrasing I'd said regarding that class on here (it was about secret crushes :D) which I didn't think they'd ever see. They were just stalking my recent posts. Not the end of the world or anything just unexpected.

We might all agree that three is a good number, but what three is another question. I don't think the references thread should have been removed while search is disabled (Who asked for this anyway?) but I was concerned with the sexual predator thread, given some of the freaks who have popped up of late.

I think moderators have searching enabled

The references thread hadn't been updated in 5 years. I'm not quite sure what you mean - has there been a lot of people that you suspect of being predators lately?

A lot? As in more than one? How many would require action. You obviously do not believe that older gay men preying on young and vulnerable kids on the internet to be an issues that affects this forum. I'm not going to try and over egg it and make out that there's perverts behind every corner, but a guide to staying safe online was a) completely with merit b) suitable to any forum discussing issues of sexuality. You just dumped it without even a "hey, what do you think. "
