They will have to remain on the rather maxed out Hotbird 13e or 16e Tooway sats becuse 3 will not pay for the different gear to transfer them to the new high capacity Ka Sat which is officially marketing within the next two weeks.

Maybe a letter of complaint to Pat Rabbitte that 3 are in breach of their NBS contract by throttling NBS users may focus their minds on their contract, then again maybe not.

Do not accept a satallite NBS install unless it is on Ka Sat, it has vastly greater and cheaper capacity than the other ones they use for Tooway, I think they are 16e or Hotbird 13e. There is no need for any throttling on Ka Sat.

You will not get the new headline speeds and higher daily download throttles on the old sats either.

I'd be interested to know if 3 have been giving anyone Satellite recently?

Is the NBS not over (and deemed a huge success)?

Oh God no, another 2 years of it left. New customers signing up daily God help the poor dears.

By the way, has anyone told Pat ???

    http://www.kildarestreet.com/wrans/?id=2011-05-17.1239.0&s=NBS+customers#g1241.0.r

The NBS contract sets out the minimum specification retail service that “3” must provide which includes the retail tariffs applicable (€19.99 per month) as well as minimum upload and download speeds and an uncharged monthly data cap of 25GB (20 GB download and 5GB upload). Where a subscriber exceeds their monthly data cap limit a retail services ancillary charge of 5 cent per MB in excess of the cap will be levied.

This forms part of the terms and conditions of each individual subscriber’s contract with “3” under the NBS.

Additionally, under its contract with the Government, “3” is prohibited from offering non-NBS products and services in NBS areas.

Interesting read that in the "PM a 3 rep forum" recently and didn't belive it, on the other hand the inference was that a customer was not allowed to buy a non-NBS offering in an NBS area. But I digress.

Isn't there a cap on the percentage of nbs customers that 3 have to give satellite to, anyone know how many that might actually be?

I have heard max 5% from Damien Gallagher . There are NBS electoral districts out there with virtually no 3g coverage and nothing in the planning pipeline where they are guaranteed to bust 5% .

Knew I'd read it somewhere recently

    NBS FAQ from www.dcenr.gov.ie
Under what circumstances is satellite used as a means of provision of broadband?

A maximum of 5% of fixed residences and businesses in the NBS coverage area may be provided with a service using satellite.

It is a matter for the service provider to decide where a satellite solution is deployed for technical reasons, within the specified limits.

So it would be good to know if 3 are honoring that part of the agreement or even using the fact they already have 5% on satellite as a way of not allowing any more users to have it?

Data on some counties has been released.

I was actually hoping for the "unlimited" overnight downloading as that would suit me as I can set up a schedual for some of the very large downloads I do, having said that I can pop down to a mates and get 2GB downloaded in 20-30mins on so its not that important.

Complain by email to DCENR direct. Ka Sat was 'launched' on the market this morning.

I got 2Gb down at a friends house last night in 8 minutes so I'll be doing my big downloading that way & just now became Onwaves first customer for thier new KA-SAT service. I'll have to live with an 8Mb download & an 8Gb cap which simply cannot be compared with the 3 bar GPRS service I have right now.
