Who would typically be seen to represent these views in Ireland? I'm looking to conduct an interview with someone on religion in Ireland.

Well I suppose the two main ones would be the Humanist Association and Atheist Ireland. The latter would probably be the most vocal and activist of the two, but they're also the more radical of the two. Atheist Ireland gets alot of criticism on boards for their campaigns, and most people on this forum would avoid aligning themselves with them too much. They'd probably appeal more to 'anti-theists' than common or garden atheists. But they do carry out some good campaigns too, the most recent one being in relation to the census.

I'm not sure what the Humanists do, they don't appear to be an activist or advocacy group really.

In short, there isn't really any organisations that could claim to represent the full spectrum of views held by atheists, because, apart from lack of belief in god, atheists don't necessarily share other similarities. Although, knowing that someone is an atheist probably has some predictive power when it comes to other issues.

A more moderate lobby group for atheists, or at least secularists, is needed in Ireland.

BTW Michael Nugent from Atheist Ireland posts in here from time to time.

As an (agnostic) atheist I'd like to think nobody represents my views except myself.

As Dave! alluded to, the only thing atheists have in common is a lack of belief in god(s).

Are you sure it's not secularists you want to find an Irish representative for?

If you want to interview someone on religion why not start with a religious person?

Not sure if this helps but....

Another well known name worth considering if you can get in contact with her is Ivana Bacik.

A C Grayling is not Irish but he does have columns in some Irish Magazines so I guess talking to him would have some relevance too. I think its Hot Press he is often given column space in.
