Bass Effects Recommendation

    Hi Guys

Is there any bass player who can recommend a good bass effects unit . There seems to be a few on the market but i dont have the luxury of going and trying them out so i would be buying blind.

I like the look of the Boss GT-10B but it is a little out of my price bracket at the moment . Im thinking more in the region of about €250 .The Kork toneworks looks half decent http://www.musicstore.com/en_EN/IEP/Korg-AX-3000-B-Multifx-for-E-Bass-/art-BAS0002170-000 but i have always been a bit dubious of Korg and there reliability .
There is also the Boss ME-50B http://www.musicstore.com/en_EN/IEP/Boss-ME-50B-Bass-Multi-FX-Processor-Power-Supply-optional/art-BAS0001648-000
This looks like a nice piece of kit ,has anybody any feedback on either of these or can you recommend another one . Even a rackmount effects with a footswitch but i cant see me getting one for the price i have in mind.

2 brands i will not touch with a very very very long stick are Behringer or Zoom so any other brands are welcome .

    Regards

    Bayles

Any boss bass pedal I've bought has lasted years. My tuner pedal is 13 years old and works fine.

I've all boss bass effects and they are great. I've the Dunlop bass wah too. Great pedal for messing about on.

Why are you so worried about brands? Korg make great gear (have done for years), Zoom make really good budget gear, and Behringer make great clones of other, usually 10x more expensive or out of production, pieces of equipment.

I have had issues with most of the affore mentioned mainly an underlying "buzzing" or "hissing" or some background noise , it almost sounds like an earthing issue with alot of the cheaper brands .
The only korg equipment i have is the rack tuner and that is fantastic , the korg effects module i mentioned seems to offer a load of different cab or head choices like the behringer V amp pro , im not really looking for that just good effects however i wouldnt let that deter me from the Korg if the effects were good .

Sounds like a bad power supply to me. I use Behringer and Zoom gear and I power it with a good PSU.

Also was this buzzing always in the same place or when gigging? If it was always in the same house/room might be the wiring in that room not the powersupply.

Been using the line 6 x3 live. It does me for guitar and bass grand, had an issue with patch selecting but sorted it by removing the handles. Should get one second hand for about what your looking to spend..

    Thanks Eoin

Can you tell me what the Line 6 is like for the low Bass frequencies is there any issue there , sometimes effects racks that are designed purely for guitar and not bass cant handle them so well . I havent checked it out online yet . Also is it possible to choose and blend different effects eg chorus and delay and then maby ad in a bit of destortion or am i limited to what i can have .

    Cheers

Its pretty good for the lows. It was designed with guitar, bass and vocals so its not just a guitar pedal. You can put loads of effects on each preset coz its got too seperate channels that process independently. I made a muse sound with heavy fuzz on one channel and a compressed slightly driven second channel with eq to give more low end and definition.

    Hey Eoin

Just want to check that this is the same unit you are talking about , if so it certainly looks like a lovely piece of kit http://line6.com/podx3live/ . I was looking at it on youtube and from what i could see they seem to over complicate programming it because there seems to be alot on it . Is it easy or does it require a bit of getting used to .

    Cheers

I definitely wouldnt call it easy to program because as you said theres so much on it, but theres a good screen and button layout and its pretty intuitive, double click on the switch to bring up that switch menu etc. I started using it on just the presets and picked up bits by messing with it.

OP, I'd recommend the Digitech BP355. Has pretty much everything you'd ever want/need.

    http://www.digitech.com/en-US/products/bp355

Click on the effects tab to the right.

It can model an SVT btw ;)
