Rumour: PSP2/NGP to be named 'PlayStation Vita'

This looks pretty legit. A brief history:

Yesterday, this site posted a report claiming NGP would be called Vita, not PSP2:

Not much to go on - a no-name site. But then these pictures showed up at another site:





Things to note - a picture of NGP at the angle in the first pic didn't previously exist. If someone faked this they'd have to have come up with a pretty excellent render of their own, and do it quickly.

Finally, it's emerged that playstationvita.com and psvita.com were registered in April to the same registrant Sony has used for other PlayStation domain names (Ascio Technologies)

I guess Sony's taken a leaf out of Nintendo's book on slightly off-the-wall naming. Vita is Italian/Latin for 'Life'.

Just found this post on NeoGAF which explains that it was codenamed Vita before it was codenamed NGP. Which is good to know, because Vita is a terrible name. :pac:

Veta was generally reported to be the codename. Google Sony+Veta and you'll see.

Maybe that site misspelled that codename and got lucky, hitting on the final name :P

Awful name but then so was Wii and it didn't stop it selling loads. At least it will stop me think of the awesome NeoGeo Pocket when NGP is mentioned.
