Twitter European Headquaters for Dublin

Has anyone been following the London V's Dublin battle to secure the soon to be announced Twitter European HQ in either capital city. Every month it seems to sway one way or the other with no official announcements other than to say that a decision has not been reached (like hell it hasn't).

Last month Twitter announced that they were opening a London office this year sparking off speculation that this would be the new European HQ.

However , this week all speculation changed again.

Thats because The first Twitter employee to move over from San Francisco is Tony Wang, the thing is - Tony is not a techy but rather a sales/marketing guy. Here lies the clue.

Many of the irish Tech firms including Facebook put the advertising sales team in London and base the HQ in Dublin.

More advertising firms in London etc.

My hunch is that Dublin is about to net the HQ jobs and the huge publicity that will come with it. let's face it Twitter has already announced it is opening in London, what is there to be gained by hiding the fact its going to be the HQ or not

    Nothing, except ?

Again my hunch is that Twitter are keeping silent for the moment to ensure that they recieve all the needed UK government support for the opening of the UK office, Visas etc. As soon as its up and running expect Dublin to be announced as the hQ for Europe.

So for now Twitter can enjoy the red carpet treatment in London as every need is pandered to meanwhile Dublin waits.

The UK libel laws are also a major concern for Twitter, however, a base in Dublin with low taxes and corporate sympathy in nasty international libel cases will be a swinging point.

    Lets face it.

The way Ireland worships the Technology firms , it will be a nightmare difficulty trying to sue Twitter in a Dublin court for libel and escape with a big payout. No so in England where the law means more than local jobs.

Put your money on the Irish, Twitter are coming.

So, the fact that we, the Irish, have proved ourself to be inept or unwilling at enforcing or prosecuting corporate corruption and have a legal system that can trap people in a never ending maze of red tape in a court system that even the judges complain about makes us favorites to land the Twitter European HQ.....

Where can i send me C.V.?

It's going to be in Dublin as we will help them avoid paying tax.

Theres lots of uk companys that pay very little tax ,way less than ten per cent .I d say wages in dublin cost of living is lower than london, plus plenty of empty office space here.So far no irish company has tried to sue twitter to get users info, unlike the uk.

¢50 million revenue is not in Microsoft league but it no small change either, and the future will generate more cash as advertising comes more onboard etc.Let's hope Ireland gets the HQ.

Well, despite the palaver, the HQ is to be based in dublin after all. i have been offered an interview for Spam support - anyone else gone for this? any more info on salary, questions etc? I already have a job so not sure if its worth it!
