Ryanair Row 13

I've flown Ryanair a number of times and noticed that they do not have a row numbered 13. Fair enough, a lot of airlines I've flown with didn't have a row 13 either.

However, I was booking a flight for the other half to Birmingham and noticed that they have a flight number FR666. Is this a paradox on numbers or does the airline manufacturer dictate the row numbering system?

The individual customer will decide this according to their own spec

Bit strange that number 13 is taboo with them but the number 666 is not.

I had seriously never heard this before.

Can someone explain what catastrophe could engulf row 13 that would leave 12 and 14 (and every other row) safe?

Metal fatigue on the seat legs that attach it to the floor. On sudden braking seats fly forward into the row infront.

its a boeing thing, unlucky 13 and all that. i'm sure if ryanair wanted a row 13 boeing would oblige....but it doesnt seem to be an issue.

There's an article about this subject here

    http://www.airlinereporter.com/2009/11/row-13-some-airlines-have-it-some-dont/

"I first spoke with Jennifer Janzen, Corporate Communications Manager with Lufthansa airlines and she explained to me that they also do not have a 17th row. Janzen informed me, “On board Lufthansa aircraft correspondingly the twelfth row is followed by the 14th. The attentive passenger, however, will also notice the absence of row 17. The reason is that in Italy and Brazil, 17 is regarded as unlucky.” On the other side, she pointed out that Lufthansa will use “Gate 13″ and has a flight number LF-013 that leaves Hamburg bound for Frankfurt daily."

On a similar note, some airlines retire flight numbers that have been involved in a crash.

Ryanair would probably charge more to sit in row 13.

There was murder in the States recently when UA 93 & UA 175 were both re-instated. UA 93 was the flight that went down in Pennsylvania on 9/11 and 175 crashed into the South Tower of the WTC. The reinstatement happened due to realigning of flight numbers due to the CO/UA merger(CO have a flight 93 & 175) and no-one noticed the error until it made it into the public domain.

Unsurprisingly there was much consternation over this given the tragedies of both flights.

From the late, great Mitch Headberg:

My hotel doesn't have a 13th floor because of superstition, but come on man, people on the 14th floor, you know what floor you're really on. "What room are you in?" "1401" "No you're not! Jump out the window, you will die earlier!"

    :)

Ryanair were also taking delivery of a new 737 and changed the reg from EI-END to EI-EGN!! Suppose who wants to be getting on board a plane with END in the reg.

EGD, not EGN. Just another one of those superstitions
