What type of batteries? Is it the small ones from remote controls or something along the lines of car batteries?

This may make a difference. I think any place that sells batteries of the type you need to get rid of have to take back old ones even if you don't actually buy anything from them.

    http://www.weeeireland.ie/ is worth a look.

Your local bring centre should take them, afaik there in Carrigtwohill, Monkstown and the Kinsale Road.

They're just normal batteries. AA size.

They have small blue boxes in Tesco, for one, for used batteries. They have them at the checkouts.

Every shop that sells batteries has to take back used ones. Every corner shop has a blue box in it for used batteries.

Aldi or Lidl behind the checkouts.

CIT Reception area has a bin for them too (as well as glass recycling in the carparks out back).
