Strange picture break-up problem

My parents have an old Panasonic Sky Digibox that they use for reception of FTA and FTV channels.

On the FTV channels only, whenever there is a lot of white on the screen the picture breaks up.

We have recently discovered that changing the SCART output from RGB to PAL fixes the problem.

    Can anyone explain this?

have you tried a different scart lead?

Probably - the box has had this problem for a few years, and has been moved about a bit in that time.

We can live with having PAL output. What I'm really wondering is why the SCART output format causes the picture and sound to break up as if the signal is poor.
