broadband speed

recently started playing call of duty -world at war- multiplayer. does the broadband speed affect reaction time or am i too slow to react myself. i have 25mb with upc and i find that though im not the worst i only average about 5 kills per game whereas others seem to regulary get up to 30-50 kills per game.
