we know its awful, see post about Sky dropping the DOGS. Rte could do a lot better here is an example

rte2hd and opaque, then removed after 1 mins, save all our plasma screens but... rte should have a look at bcc etc. They can have it permanent on soaps, chat shows, news, ads but leave it off sports, movies, documentaries. And it would be a revamp can I copyright that??

However as rte aped sky in the 1st instance maybe they will follow suit now, it may take a few months before penny drops viz DOGs are neither wanted or required. Save a fortune in the marketing dept. more money for HD.

I don't understand why they haven't stuck to their original decision to only use the "HD" DOG when actually transmitting HD content. It would help distingish between true HD and upscaled. And the majority of content on the channel is upscaled, only certain broadcasts (mainly live sport) will be in true HD.

This is what RTÉ said regarding the dog
It is planned that the service [RTÉ2 on DTT] will carry a new logo/bug ‘RTÉ 2 HD’ and also a short animation will be played, probably a lower third super, on handover to the live event.

My understanding of that is the graphic would be there at all times on DTT. There was no mention of switching between "RTÉ2 HD" and "RTÉ2" dogs during transmission.

The animation and picture quality (hopefully) would indiacted the to the viewer that the broadcast is in true HD.

It could be it a little less visible though.
