Doctors Visit....what to do??

Hi, here is a brief outline of my issue. I have over the last six months started to find it increasingly more difficult to achieve and maintain a good erection. I know i need to visit a doctor about this to get it sorted. However my dilemma is in my regular GPs office my sister in law is a secretary and while i never bat an eyelid about going in there with a cold or something this is different just in case she had access or even an accidental look at my files, its not something you want your sis in law knowing about. She would be very discreet to be fair if she did see it on my charts so thats not whats bothering me its just one of those things. Other problem is my GP is very very good and i really want to see him. Do you think if i asked and explained why he would put something different on my files???

Yes definitely. If you explain this to your GP they won't put the details of the visit on your file.

My mum used to work in a doctor's surgery. AFAIK a doctor's secretary does have access to the files as depending on the surgery they frequently have to file things into them-?blood results etc...

I work with gp software, most of them have a capacity to hide information from general users, but it will be purely if the GP has taken the time to start to manage the system in that way. If you talk to your GP, explain your situation re your sis in law, your gp would be able to let you know whether he (and his system) can restrict access to the data given your concerns, or he could agree not to note the specific details of the consultation. Ideally your gp has to record something for medico-legal reasons. Your request would be by no means out of the ordinary, and your gp has more than likely dealt with similar issues.

    Good luck

If you're worried about it would you consider going to a different doctor?

well if I were you I would probably ask him about it. the secretary does have access to your files.

he may put something different on it...or word it so an ordinary person would not know what it is but really you need to think about it as you may have other medical problems in the future also that you do not want your SIL knowing about.
easiest thing is to change doc.
