I see a ,blue 1999 porsche 996 on carzone for many months now. Its price is now 13,500. It looks a very nice car. Anyone know the history behind it. Surely if it was as good as it looks, ,it would have sold long ago.
Dont know how to put a ,link up sorry

Ive been told you guys on here go to the bottom of this kind of thing so that is why I register.

I just searched Carzone for 1999 Porsches and there is no 996.

There is a 911 though, is this the one you mean?

That is a 996. 996 model was the first of the water cooled 911 from around 1998. The later 911 is a 997

Yeah, that is the 996 and must be the one the OP is talking about.

That kit kinda looks a bit chavved out to me - I dunno. That rear clip-on piece on the back bumper looks fking woeful.
Interesting price though.. must be in bits if it's not sold already at that price.

Sorry don't know any history of the car though. Description makes him sound like a bit of a twat.

A real pity that Porsche got rid of the fried egg headlights on the 997. I thought it was a move in the right direction.

    .....which is this one: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1788870
The calibre of the ad text tells you all you want to know...

That an almost famous advert at this stage! It started at 18k then has slowly dropped from there.

There is obviously something seriously wrong with it (apart from being an auto:pac:).
That said very little goes wrong with 996`s apart from a known engine issue that can be fixed so it never happens again.
'almost famous' ? LOL, understatement of the day !

    Oh, the Tip makes it a +, not a - btw.......... ;)

'very little goes wrong ' - apart from the engine going AWOL ? Sure, nothing €12k can't fix..........

Thats the one! I haven't seen anybody talking about it on the Porsche forum and the advert is awful. That said if its straight and the engine is good its a steal at that price, you wont find a cheaper one I dare say anywhere in Europe at that price.

Which Porsche forum ? It's been done-to-death on the Irish one.....the car is truly 'infamous'........

OP - there's a reason it's been for sale for so long. Very Caveat, Very Emptor.

You could do worse than start visiting here as well: http://forum.porsche-club-ireland.com/index.php

Don't you already have two Minis and an Almera. And 1000 penguins.

Interesting that on Donedeal it's 1,000 Euro cheaper . To my ( untrained ) eye it looks like a nice and well-maintained car.
Perhaps people are just turned off by the costs associated with a 3.4 litre engine ?
Obviously the seller is being plagued with time wasters which may account for the ' grumpy ' writing style.

God they really were a stunning looking car, weren't they?

I haven't done any research on the car but as other posters have said the ad alone seems is off putting. As already said it looks like the ad was written by someone selling a civic with tints/springs/22" inch alloys etc... rather than a Porsche!

I don't know anything about the car but it appears that there's plenty of info out there on it. Have a read of the Porsche forum.

From the ad it appears that the car may have fallen into the wrong hands.

...you want to watch that eye - it could end up losing you a fortune !

...as for costs of a 3.4 ? Not really, tbh, that 3.4 would cost less to run than many cars of far smaller capacity.

Are you going to tell us all of your secret knowledge of this car or keep us guessing?

Ah , all good men know their deficiencies and I'm a good fella - I wouldn't touch a pram without getting it looked over by an expert ;)

I'd tell you. But then I'd have to kill you :p:p

Btw, panic/disaster averted: car marked as 'sold' on DD now.

    And back up to 16k.

    Yeah, right.........

I'd also like to know??... Have come across it a few times on DD

Unless the seller is actually 15, it's mind boggling how bad his grammar and "writing style" is but on the other hand pictures are fairly decent.

At first I thought it had to be a piss take..

Either way, something just doesn't sit right about the whole ad.

Heh, there's 996 sitting in Baldoyle for the last 4 years. Never been driven since, I suspect the engine is knackered.

Id assume your talking about the famous rear main seal problems which is an engine out job to fix(even though its only an actual seal that costs very little that needs changing) which costs allot of money. That would worry me enough to stay away from that engine

Its not just RMS problems. It could have Intermediary Shaft failure, which is far harder to fix, and requires tools and know how.

I can't wait to see the thread up here when someone tells us they bought a cheap 911 that has a 'small' issue..........
