Pricing a miniature collection?

Hey, I've had a fairly large collection of 40k and LOTR miniatures that I haven't touched in about five years and I'm thinking about selling them on. The LOTRs stuff is easily checked, but I have some older (3rd ed I think?) 40k miniatures that have since been replaced, mostly due to the move over to plastic. Was just wondering what the story with these older miniatures are, would they be considered less valuable than the newer models or would the be worth more in a kind of "collectors item" fashion? Would it be dependant on the indivual miniatures?

Also I have a fair amount of back issues of White Dwarf, as well as a few rulebooks (3rd ed 40k, Inquisitor, first two Lotr), would these be worth anything?

I hope I haven't put this in the wrong place. Any help is appreciated :)

The only minis that are likely to command any real money are the Limited Edition figures. Older minis, well, some older players may want them for nostalgia or variety, but I wouldn't count on them being any more valuable than any other figure.

Rulebooks, again, nostalgia, or patching holes in a collection. Something like the Book of the Astronomican, or the Realm of Chaos books can go for reasonable money on eBay and the like. I think the Index Astartes books might fetch at least cover price as well.

Doubt you'll get much for the rulebooks as the LoTR aren't much different ruleswise and any one who knows they existed most likely has them already f they were inclined o get them anyway, 3rd isn't played by anyone AFAIK, and Inquisitor's free to download from GW themselves

Cheers for the advice lads, I'll try get an inventory of what I have and find reasonable prices to set for 'em. The rulebooks and such'll be thrown in anyway seeing as they're no use to me. Cheers for the tips though, I'd hate to feel I'm ripping people off, especially considering the prices GW seem to charge for their stuff.

I wonder if it might be better to hold on to the LotR stuff til the new Hobbit movie is near coming out, and the publicity gets ramped up around it again?

As hh said, the only ones worth any real money would be the limited edition type stuff.

Some of the older models look a bit off too, so models like the (REALLY old) Tyranid Carnifex, old Ork boyz and old Space Marine Rhino's/Land Raider's probably wouldn't sell too well.

That said, I wouldn't practically give them away either.

I, myself, have paid almost ten quid for a 2nd edition Berzerker, but I love them so I'm a bit of an exception.

Do you have any pictures or a list of your models?
