just prime it and paint it what ever colour u want and if u can unscrew it from the wall take it off better again u can paint it on stands and u wont have to cut into(paint along the wall)the wall

Wash it down with a rag and some white spirit

    BIN prime it

2 coats of satinwood or gloss to finish it.

    Job done.

Hi was just wondering did you go ahead and paint your fireplace and how did it turn out if you did. Am strongly thinking of doing it but fire is in daily use and am kind of scared to do it incase it starts peeling or cracking!!! Also mine was waxed a few years back will that put the kibosh on painting it! Your advice would be grateful. Thanks:confused:

    Hello,

I did eventually paint it. I very lightly sanded the wood, only mildly though to give it some sort of a way to soak on the base coat. I used one layer of white base coat and then two layers of gloss white paint.

It looks great but I don't have a working fire as I prefer the central heating so I cannot comment on the heat of a fire. I don't think it would be affected because the paint was high quality paint and put on with the advice of the paint shop.

I painted my fireplace white too. I use the open fire all the time and have had no problems with paint cracking, etc. I used a dulux satinwood paint.

A wipe down with meths or white spirits and then dry it off.

Zinnser BIN Primer is what you need to apply 1st,then apply either your eggshell or your satinwood paint.:)
