O2 rang me today to say that my data charges are at nearly €200 :O It turns out my iphone downloaded nearly 600 megs without me knowing last Sunday.

Is there anyway to know what iPhone apps are downloading? I know you can see the stats of how much is downloaded by the phone, but I'd like to see what app is the culprit?

tomtom stands as it's 1.9gb in size alone.
I think the last update pushed it up maybe 100-200meg so any chance if was this?
Can you remember if you updated tomtom and what was your previous version?

App and Podcast downloads are capped at 20MB over 3G, can't have been that.

You're running an old version of iOS, take it you're jailbroken then? Could be a JB app leaking data or something.

Tunein radio will gobble vast amounts of data if left to its own devices...

The fact that he has a NES emulator installed suggests that the phone is jailbroken. Therefore its not likely that the usual iOS backgrounding rules will apply, so it could pretty much be any app at all (well, except radio apps unless you're in the habit of leaving the volume down).

That alone would make it harder to track down. I think the OP will just have to be more careful about what he leaves running in future.

I've got myself into the habit of turning off packet data when I'm not explicitly using it. Got a bit of a shock when Vodafone's website claims I used 872.4MB of data over the last 2 weeks while my iPhone only says 199MB. I'm covered as I have 2GB to spare but I'm playing it safe nonetheless.

Tunein radio would use about 225MB in an hour wouldn't it?
I remember THIS THREAD that also seems to blame tunein.

On a 128kbps stream it should in theory use 56.25MB in an hour.
