Suggestions for Irish songs?

Hey guys, I'll try keep this short and apologies if it's in the wrong place.

Basically, I'm going into studio next weekend and have about a week in which to record a few songs (thank god for having mates as sound engineers, cheap recording time!). I've decided to do some Irish songs, kind of Christy Moore genre as I'm an alto singer and his music suits my "comfort" level in keys and such.

The thing I need help with is basically I'd like to get some opinions on an idea I've had. I was thinking of maybe recording the singing in the Irish language. Now, I've only ever done recording 5 or 6 years ago for a crappy rock band so I am a total n00b. Does Irish come across well when recording in the language? Aside from that, I don't know an awful lot of Christy music but wanted to do maybe Ride On and Dirty Auld Town, both in Irish. My other songs are chosen already. I've searched for Irish translations to both, to no avail, I just found a very badly translated version of Dirty Auld Town.

Anyone know where or even if I could find translations for these songs? And any tips for recording itself would be great, for making my voice sound as good as it can be?

    Thanks :)

The Black Family, Eoghan Scott and Danny from the Coronas have done material in Irish and sounds really delicate. Listen to Danny's Irish song he recorded its cool.

Irish can sound surprisingly musical. Had some great experiences recording rock songs in Irish. Sorry I can't help with translation.

The Irish songs I get asked for most are:

    Galway Shawl
    Galway Girl
    On The One Road
    Aslan songs
    Black Velvet Band
    Red Rose Cafe
    Sweet Sixteen

There are albums out currently by Na Fianna and The High Kings which will probably give you a good idea of what's popular on the trad side of things.. I'm sure some of the above have been translated at some stage.. Of course you have the anthem Amhrán Na BhFiann which is already in Irish.. :-)
