Wrestling Themes

Does anyone find themes in the last few years to be getting increasingly worse? They all seem to be using band music, opposed to custom made themes. The only decent theme released recently was Cody Rhodes, but then they had to mess that up. Stuff like Randy Orton, Christian, and all that other generic music doesn't have the same pop to it as the Rock or Austin, or even Goldust.

I was listening over my old WWF Anthology CD today and it made me realise how truly woeful today's entrance themes are. :( Perfect, Million Dollar man, Hogan, Jake Roberts.. Now those were good themes!

Does anyone actually like the new vibe, or do they prefer custom music?

i really like cm punks entrance music and it really suits him

    christians is good too.

but yeah by and large they do not seem to be even slightly interested in matching up the music to the character - i think since jim johnston stopped writing the music directly for each wrestler personally the quality has seriously dropped off

i think it was much worse in the mid-2000s; everyone had "Matt Striker's" theme; i.e. generic instrumental rock track. That said, "generic instrumental rock" was a fair reflection on the generic personalities at the time.

But lately I've been enjoying WWE's themes more - they've been using a lot of cover bands since it seems Jim Johnson has been burnt out - who wouldn't be? (Or is he gone now?)

Miz, Sheamus, Cody, Nexus....ADR has a very specific mariache (sp?) theme.

Nothing will ever beat Real American, Ted DiBiase, Warrior - but sure they're associated with the 1st time period with music, and have 25+ years of being ingrained in our heads, and the wrestlers themselves were AMAZINGLY awesome. But judging the tracks by themselves, like DiBiase's track is extremely basic, as was the Rockers etc. But they're "untouchable" since they're now 'classic' tracks.

In short, it's better than it was a few years ago, but not as awesome as the Hulkamania or Attitude Era. But at least you can blare today's music in your car and nobody'll recognise it's wrestling music!

Yeah they have gone downhill a fair bit since the 80's or even since the 90's (Austin,DX,Kane,The Nation,Foley,The Brood,Edge&Christian,Hardy's etc)

Most of todays theme's sound very generic, with the exception of CM Punk's and The Miz's,which suit both of them perfectly.

This is probably my favourite ever theme:

I hadn't bothered downloading any themes for a couple of years. Then last week I went on youtube and downloaded 30+ themes that had download links.

The best ones I got were Zack Ryder, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Drew McIntyre and The Miz from WWE and Madison Rayne, Tara and Beer Money from TNA.

I'd agree about the mid 2000's being very generic but then some of my favourite themes have been from production libraries. Gregory Helms (2006), Lance (Garrison) Cade (2003), Victoria (Sep - Nov 2002) and The Brian Kendrick.

Generic production themes can be good but they have to be judged independent of each other, on their own merit.

How can you say themes today are bad when this is around?

Who does everyone think has the worst, most generic sounding entrance music in WWE today?

Alex Riley, Tyson Kidd, DH Smith, Tyler Reks, The Usos and Gail Kim all get my vote.

Rileys music is the worst imo.My favourite at the moment is Drew McIntyre, the slow build up is gas,no man could live up to that music. All time favourite has to be Vader's just awesome & suited his character which is the most important thing.

From what I've heard of it on Raw, I like Riley's new theme:

Fine with most of the roster's at the moment too, I suppose. There's an exception with Chris Masters' face theme (go back to the original that reminds me of Terminator and the end of Alien 3) which I flat out don't like but stuff like Big Show, Kane, JTG, Hornswoggle and the Usos' themes are, or have become, more a foreboding that something mildly irritating about to happen.

Tyson Kidd's isn't great but I know it's him when I hear it and I'm fine if Reks's ever resurfaces just keep the same music off Darren Young. R-Truth just needs to get one again.

Looking at the roster list, it's just a couple of Divas and DH Smith whose music I can't recall without checking.

I was just about to say that Riley's new theme is an improvement. I'll have to give it a few listens to see if it grows on me.

Also I like Masters' face theme as a theme and it does kinda suit him, however I loved his original theme as it had the gravitas of Ric Flair or Mr. Perfect's themes. It had an epic sound to where it almost preconditioned you to think "This guy's important" (when they hadn't started jobbing him out).

Also I forgot about Hornswoggle. I hate that theme, I REALLY hated it when Finlay started using it. I thought Hornswoggle should have kept his original theme "St. Patrick's Fray"

and Finlay should have either kept "Lambeg" or that celtic rock theme he used, I think only once, in 2008.

On a related note I love Sheamus' theme.
