Buying a sim-free phone

    Hi.
I'm about to buy a new phone sim-free. I thought it would be a good idea to be free from any contracts and go pre-pay with any operator.
Now, I wonder what happens my old phone number.
Is it possible to keep it or do I get a new number each time I switch?

Your number isn't connected to the phone, but the SIM card.

Numbers can be ported between operators. If you're on Vodafone now, for example, and decide to move to O2, you just tell them when you're switching and your number will be moved over within hours.
