I think (but probably 100% wrong) that the first egg that a hen lays will have 2 yokes.

    How eggciting...

Happens all the time. I find with eggs From Dunnes I get a lot of double yolks.

But don't eat them, they are highly toxic.

The chicken and the egg are laying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face while the egg is frowning and looking slightly annoyed.

The egg mutters "Well I guess that answers that riddle". :(

From time to time a hen will lay a double yolked egg. Just means that two eggs were released during ovulation.

You ate an egg with 2 yokes? Bit early to kick off the weekend but maybe I'm just an old fogey.

I'm guessing you double dropped, then?

Highly toxic? Toxic with what? Twice the egg?

Only thing I could find searching on google commented as follows:
Some hens will lay double-yolked eggs as the result of unsynchronized production cycles. Although heredity causes some hens to have a higher propensity to lay double-yolked eggs, these occur more frequently as occasional abnormalities in young hens beginning to lay. Usually a double-yolked egg will be longer and thinner than an ordinary single-yolk egg. Double-yolked eggs occur rarely, only leading to observed successful hatchings under human intervention, as the unborn chickens would otherwise fight each other and die.

It's rare, but not weird. Also, seems like a bit of thunderdome for chicks.

    Sweeeeeeeeeet

They sell these in Holland - boxes of six eggs each with a double-yolk. I don't know if those crazy cats are genetically engineering them that way or if this is just a really common thing to happen.

Congratulations you just murdered twin baby chickens you monster.

Having said that a few drops of Worchestershire Sauce and a sprinkle of Aromat seasoning on top of eggs when frying brings them up a treat.

I'm hungry now, gotta get me some eggs

This reminds of when I cut open a red pepper only to find a little baby green pepper inside it, a bit like a Russian doll...

I read that title: My Friend Egg has two yokes.

I thought it was going to be a thread about your friend having two pills and you were looking for advice about taking some of the drugs off him.

Don't worry, commercial eggs are unfertilised.

I was making an omelet a couple of weeks ago and all three eggs were double yoked. I got curious and cracked the remaining three just to see. Sure enough, all six were double yoked. Bought them in Dunnes and the packaging said nothing about it. And in case ye were wondering... Yes, I used all six eggs in the omelet. Yes, I felt muck after and yes I spent most of the next 24 hours alone and outdoors.

the unborn chickens would otherwise fight each other and die.

Is this not like twins being conceived ? If so, why does the above apply ? Surely twins don't kick the crap out of each other in the womb until one dies, do they ?

People who eat eggs are sick, twisted individuals. The whole idea of eggs makes me want to vomit. Plus they smell like sh1te. Why people eat them is beyond me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,383 ✭✭✭emeraldstar

We got a box of eggs once and every egg in it had twin yolks. I do find them a little disturbing, frankly.

    Eggs are great though.
