    6 hours on I'm feeling slightly better......how come my jaw to open/close hurts/ aches real bad?

    Nice of you not to make a big deal over the wrong side.... no harm, no foul....

    It's hard to look into your mouth over the net but there are 2 main possibilities;
    • You strained your jaw joint/muscles by having your mouth open wide during the procedure
    • The local anaesthetic needle pierced muscle during administration of the local causing a small bleed (haematoma) in the muscle. This can cause some discomfort and trismus (limited opening). This is relatively common as LA administration is essential a blind procedure- we use landmarks such as the teeth, front of the jaw etc to estimate the location of the lower dental nerve....
    Bottom line is that it should settle;
    Treat it in the same way you would treat a sprained/ bruised wrist/ankle;
    • Rest; soft diet, no chewing gum, no apples/ steak etc for about 2 weeks
    • Anti-inflammatory meds (also have pain killing activity) taken regularly eg nurofen
    • Allow it to resolve itself
    TALK TO YOUR DENTIST OR MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL_ THIS ADVICE IS NOT FOR ALL PAINS AND NOT FOR ALL PEOPLE.....!!!!!!

    Thank you OS......appreciate the detailed reply. I'm a nervy patient and probably threw the dentist off his game when I asked for more LA. I have have sensitive teeth nerves and could feel the drill. He did warn me it would take a few days for things to settle down. He was morto re the wrong side...

    Jaw still aches and opening of jaw still aches but comforted to the reason why.:)
