Hey, I've just signed on and was wondering what the story with rent allowance is?

Do i just apply to the dole office or is it somewhere else? Does it cover your whol rent or a percentage? Do I need anything from my landlord to apply?

    THanks

Be prepared for a pain in the hole.

You need to apply through your HSE community welfare officer. You need to fill out two forms. One for yourself and another your landlord needs to fill out. They want bank statements, hard copy proof that your landlord owns the property, P45 and a copy of your passport. If youre paying over 390 per month you wont qualify so youll need to ask your landlord to reduce the rent to that otherwise they wont approve you.

You can pick up the forms from a HSE Community Centre. Once I was approved I wasnt waiting long thankfully.

Yeah youre grand so. Theres a HSE head office in town, one in Millmount in Drumcondra and one just down from Superquinn in Finglas. Not sure where any others are though.

If you call the head office they are very helpful to be fair to them.

Yes 100% certain. I was told nicely to go away and to come back when my rent is 390. Luckily I have a sound landlord. Yes you have to be renting 6 months alright, but I am renting the last two years so you might want to check that to see if theres a way around it as I didnt have ot deal with that side of it. If you ring the HSE office in town they seem really helpful.

Doubt they will qualify to be honest. I wasnt paying much more than 390 and they made a big song and dance about it.
