Speeding Fixed Penalty - Appeals info?

    Hi folks,

Came home today to a Fixed Charge Offence form from the Gardai. It says that I was doing 75kph in a 60kph zone and that's €120 and 2 points on your licence, please and thank you.

The thing is I know that road like the back of my hand and there are NO 60kph signs on it. In case I am losing my marbles I went out and checked. There is an 80kph sign with a camera sign on top and then there is nothing between it and the lay by the camera van was parked in.

Now to my mind that's open and shut - I can't obey a Special Speed Limit that I don't know about because it's not signed! I have taken a picture of the 80kph sign and video of the stretch of road from there to the lay by and I have emailed the enquiries address on the form attaching the picture (not the video which is 217 MBs )

I am assuming they have to cancel the fine, right? There are no details on the form about how to appeal, just instructions on how to pay and threats about higher points if you don't pay and are convicted, has anyone ever argued one of these before? How did you go about it?

You may end up having to go to court to argue it...

Find out the area you were stopped in, contact garda to ask them which garda jurisdiction (this could take a few calls), contact the superintendent of that station and then inform them of the speed limits and the signs. If you are correct the super will cancel it.

SpeAk to the local council and ask them the actual speed limit of the road. They can confirm it in writing for a fee

u could also email the traffic corps with the guards, there email address is on the garda website, u can quiz them about it
