LASEK - What should I expect?

I'm getting LASEK laser eye surgery done tomorrow. What should I expect in terms of after the surgery? Will my eyes be very blurry for a few days or will I be able to see within a few hours? Will I feel much pain afterwards?

Will I be able to watch the United-Barca match on Saturday? :D

    Whats your experience with LASEK?

Very interested in this too! I reckon I'll get it done on the 8th of June but I'm torn between ik and ek. Where are you getting it done Dean and how come you chose to go for lasek instead of lasik if you had the option?

Best of luck tomorrow - peoples mileage seems to heavily vary in terms of the discomfort after so hopefully it'll be nice and smooth for yourself!

I had LASEK done on my right eye in the Mater on May 10th. The eye is not 100% just yet, but I'd say she's damn near the 80% mark. Vision not perfect, but definitely getting there.

Pain is minimal, but eye feels very irritated and gritty afterwards. No pain though, or very minimal pain.

If you get both eyes done at the same time (something I would NOT recommend), yes, you will have blurry vision, etc.

But getting one done at a time (as happened me) will mean that you'll have one good eye and will be able to do all the everyday things you'd normally do.

    Good luck with it!

I'm getting it done with Optilase. I wanted IK myself but my cornea was too thin so I had to get the EK done instead.

I'm getting both done at the same time. Will I be able to see the television or is that a big no-no?

I honestly cannot say whether you can see the television or not, as I do not know. For me, with only one eye getting done, I was able to lead my life as I had always done after 24 hours of getting one eye done.

Getting both done at the same time, I'm not so sure what the results/implications would be.

Everything went perfectly! The surgery itself was painless, more weird than anything. When I walked into the room, I couldn't see the surgeon and the nurses' faces and when it was done, although slightly blurry I could see their faces!

I feel a slight sting every now and again but nowhere near the pain I thought it would be. Its grand.

I can see the television just fine. My laptop in front of me is a little blurry but thats it.

The most annoying thing so far is wearing the plastic things they gave me for when I sleep. Very uncomfortable, barely slept last night.

There is a way to position the eye guards so it isn't uncomfortable. It took me a while but I worked it out. I think the trick was for it not to be on the cheekbone, to have it above.

Great to hear Dean - After talking to the surgeons I'm going to go Lasek too and great to hear about your quick recovery Daz. I've a few bits to do in July so nice to hear there's a good chance of normality by then.

    Onwards and upwards!
