Flute for a Beginner???

I'm pretty sure that would be fine.

Theres no point in paying any more for a beginner IMO. My first flute, a "Lark", dunno where my folks got it (Santa brought it to me:) but it was perfect for a beginner, despite that fact there was a crap sound from it. You get what you pay for or course, but save your pennies until you feel like you want to progress with it.

Its an amazing instrument. Best of luck and enjoy!

I have a paolo mark and they are surprisingly good. Definitely as good as most of the entry level ones for around 200 euro in the shops. I was thinking of trying one of their clarinets. Anyone have an opinion as it's for a present and I don't want to spend an arm and a leg?

Speak to a professional, either Paul Ryan Brass & Woodwind or Joe Lynch @ McCullough Piggot in Dublin, or your local brass and woodwind store. Having worked extensively with one of the leading companies in this area, I can tell you that the Paolo Mark is well below where teachers would recommend starting, it is a cheap flute, not a decent one. Paul has some good ones on his site, and he and Joe are always there for advice, as well as help with sticky keys etc.
