Intel USB Drivers

So all the USB ports on my laptop have stopped working. The problem was I was installing software for an external hard drive which didn't work so I uninstalled that software and it seemed to affect the whole lot.

I'm thinking it is a matter of updating the driver software (OS Windows 7) but on the Intel download centre [HERE], I'm getting confused.

What should I be searching for regarding getting the drivers for USB ports (ICH9 Family). i.e. Should I select Chipsets and if so there is a multitude of options.

Alternatively, anyone know a more direct less confusing way to update drivers to get my USB ports back.

    Cheers.

    Follow that link http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/627-problems-usb-drivers.html

    You might try it also:
The solution is easy for this - if your USB flash drives, memory sticks, external USB hard drives don't work in Windows 7 any more - don't install properly in "Device Manager", all you have to do is to go to: "C:\Windows\System32\drivers" folder and completely DELETE these 2 files: "disk.sys" and "partmgr.sys"!!!
If Windows 7 doesn't allow you to delete them, use SAFE MODE (press "F8" when windows boots up and choose "Safe Mode").
DON'T BE AFRAID TO DELETE THOSE - What happens is - these two files get damaged somehow/sometimes, and by deleting them from ".../System32/drivers" folder - YOU ARE FORSING WINDOWS TO RENEW THESE FILES, by refreshes the copies of those files from Windows Driver Archives and they become FIXED!!!
Then you can go ahead to "Driver Manager" (on your keyboard hit "Windows Key + R", then type into the "Open" field - "devmgmt.msc" and hit Enter) and right-click on every USB drivers with the exclamation mark and hit "Uninstall". Then, in the "Device Manager" hit on "Action", then "Scan for hardware changes" - the USB drives should install correctly after that.
    GOOD LUCK!

Just uninstall them from Device Manager, restart. Windows should pick them back up (if not pop in the USB stick) and install them automatically
