Humax PVR set up question

    Folks,

I have a Humax PVR hd freesat box.

I want Saorview but cannot achieve it without a new tv or additional receiver.
TV is out of the question, but, is the following set-up possible:

I want to connect the Humax box to my TV via HDMI so I can benefit from the HD signal.
I would then like to connect MY RTE aerial to a saorview receiver and the Saorview receiver to the Humax box via scart/composite.

The humax box states it can run dual transmissions. Would this work? Effectively sending the RTS's through the Humax box and HDMI cable to the TV?

I've a box like that and I'm pretty sure 'no' is the answer - the two inputs are to allow recording on one channel and watching of another I don't think you can put the sat dish through one and the saorveiw through the other - I know I looked into it when I first got the box about a year ago, so unless it's changed since.

Don't suppose you have a PS3? - I've got the PlayTV disc and am able to run the saorview signal through the PS3.

    No PS3, :(

    You misunderstood my question.

I want to route the Saorview receiver through the composite connectors on the Humax. The Humax is not decoding the signal, I just want to be able to switch the Humax to its composite input and then use the Saorview receiver to view the RTE's.

I know I am not explaining myself very well, so apologies for that.

    Maybe I am mis-understanding.
If you have a Saorview receiver and don't need to Humax to decode then can you not connect the saorview receiver direct to the tv - why would you need to go through the Humax?

If you only have one free HDMI on your TV and it is being used by the Humax, you could still use a SCART output from the SaorView box but it would not be HD. Likewise running the Soarview box through a SCART on the Humax will loose HD. Consider buying a HDMI switch to allow both boxes connected by HDMI.

I have only 1 HDMI cable running in the wall (buried and plastered in) to the TV, so I need to send everything through that.

I am not concerned about loosing the HD on Saorview.

Is anyone getting Freeview HD/Saorview HD on the one box on the east coast, Bray/Greystones/Kilcoole area. If so, what box are you using and what are the pros and cons.

If you are looking into HDMI switchers, I'd recommend this one.

It's got an auto switcher so if you have your Humax on and you then switch on the Saorview STB from Standby it'll auto switch. Same with the likes of my Blu-Ray Player.

.....and it's got a tiny remote control, so you can flick between what ever input you want without having to switch things on or off. Very handy for flicking between Saorview and Freesat. It does take about 5 secs switch

It's powered out of the HDMI cable to so no need to plug it in. You will notice an AC adapter comes with the pack, that is only used if you HDMI lead is really long, something like 10 meters.

Recommended, I always buy Neet HDMI Cables too and thay are the business, very cheap and great build quality. Same goes for the HDMI Switcher.

You will need to buy an extra HDMI cable to act as an input from the TV to the switcher.
