Cooling off period

I have been ringing around making a few calls about motor insurance
Initially I got a quote for myself and my girlfriend

It was cheaper with me on my own and cost extra to add my girlfriend,
However I found out that my girlfriends car insurance actually covers her to drive my car.
I contacted the insurance company I received the quote off (the renewal isnt due for a week) and I said I didnt want to add my girlfriend, they now say it makes no difference if i remove her??
in other words she can be taken off the quote but they wont return it to its original value.
I gave my details and they have already deducted the cost from me, but I was of the understanding that was to secure the quote. I rang to make the changes (ie only me insured) this morning but noticed online that my credit card had been deducted, they say i have a policy with them now.

I told them I want my money back, they say 10 days and I have to write to them, even though they seem to accept a policy not in writing?
I expected the policy would exist and be charged for when I returned the signed declaration.
I'm annoyed at them now and think If this is how they go about their business, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Can they charge me for this so called policy if I turn it down now, as in an admin charge? the insurance policy date hasnt started/isnt due to start for a week so still with existing policy and company.

Ask to speak to a supervisor, Don't deal with the peasants..

Tell the supervisor that you are going to be writing to the consumer show on RTE 1, That will give them a gentle boot in the hole..

LOL! I am sure they will be quaking in their boots.

The FSO would be a better place to complain to.
