I know there have been posts in the past about travel insurance but I'm hoping with a bit of luck, we can get a "one thread solution" for insurance enquiries! :)

My annual insurance is up in less than 2 months and I was stung by my policy when i needed to make a late last year. While I read the T&C's i guess I didnt have a solicitor review them in advance and I imagine many people dont read the T&C's at all! Essentially i took out Personal Items cover only to discover certain items are not considered personal items. (such as eye glasses!)

Most enquiries for insurance are usually the cheapest. But cheapest doesnt always equal best.

Im currently with Get Cover and paid €36 for annual cover last summer. That includes their definition of "personal items" and excludes sports/golf.

Whats your cost & cover and who with? How did you find the cover itself?

I was stung a few years ago with travel insurance, bought the cheapest I could find and didn't read the T&C's. Turned out, the medical cover didn't include pre existing illnesses and we weren't covered when my husband ended up in hospital for a complication with a pre existing illness.

It was a valuable lesson in two ways, first, cheapest is not always best and second, always read the terms and conditions!

Since that, I have got my travel insurance through VHI and now Aviva since I swapped my health insurance. Annual world wide cover is €69 for the two of us and they do cover pre existing illnesses. Although my husband lost his iphone on holiday last week and Aviva wouldn't cover it. I would think most companies wouldn't cover personal items like mobile phones though, but otherwise I find Aviva's cover good for the price.
