itunes payment problem?

Today i finally got my shiny new visa debit card and threw 100 quid in the bank for the week. (This is my only money that has been deposited into the account thus far.)

I bought one app off itunes earlier today and used my new card to christen it :o.
    The app cost 79c.
I just now set up and checked my online banking.
There is a Point Of Sale charge for 1.98.

Does anyone know if itunes have a past (or present, for that) history of doing anything like this? As in taking more money out of an account than they should have?
I done a search and the closest i could find was people paying for stuff and then not downloading.
Does itunes have a facility to try and bring this sort of an issue up?

It's probably just an authorisation hold. Have a look here:

Thanks for that SP, it seems likely that is what it is.
But one question I have is does the 1dollar or whatever it is get repaid back into my account?

No, because it hasn't actually been taken. It's just a test to see that there's money in your account. When Apple doesn't confirm the charge your bank will delete the hold after a few days and your balance will return to normal.

Authorisation holds are used most times you buy something with a credit card. They are a temporary measure to ensure you have enough money in your account and stop you from spending it until the card is actually charged. It usually takes a few days for charges to show up properly in your online statement. In this case Apple are just using it to make sure your card is active.
