I started a job 3 weeks ago. But I have been sick the last 2 days. I called in sick 2 hours before I should of started today which is on my contract etc.. My boss said that I will be paid for today but will have to pay the person that is covering my shift.. I am just wondering is this legal or where do I stand.. About deducting tax etc out of my wages.. Any information would be great. Thanks.

    What does your contract say?

You need to ask your boss to clarify what "will have to pay the person that is covering my shift" means. It is madness if they mean they will pay you X and you have to pay the person Y in cash.

My contract says that I have to call in anytime up to one hour after start time.. Doesn't say anything about paying anyone.. I obiviously agreed to pay when on the phone as I just wanted my shift covered etc. but I now have thought about it and I think it's very strange.. As I will have to deduct tax from if not my employment rights are been messed around.. I have a sick cert and all. Might ring citizens information tomorrow so get advise!

No advice, but that seems ludicrous, I am interested to hear what CA say to you!
