Can anyone advise me on BIK on expenses particularly mileage expenses.I provide my own transport for the job that I do, its a motorbike under 1000cc.
I do on average 250 miles a week and have recently been told that I have to pay BIK on the expenses that I have been receiving which are slightly less than civil service rates.Last year I received just under 4200 in expenses ,I also earn 42400 a year,if that is relevant.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like nonsense, but without knowing what kind of job you do, and why they are charging the BIK it's impossible to refute / confirm it...

Ask them on what basis they feel they are obliged to charge you the BIK, then come back...

Who was it that told you that you have to pay BIK - a person who is qualified in payroll, a tax professional, an accountant, a friend who heard somewhere or your employer.

Employees who incur expenses such as motor and travel when using their vehicle for business purposes can be repaid the full amount tax free by way of a flat rate per kilometer or the actual cost incurred. The only reason you would have to pay BIK would be if you were paid in excess of the civil service rates.

For motorbikes the civil service rates are 28.59c per K up to 6,437K and then 17.6c after this. A rough calculation would suggest that you are getting paid these amounts exactly based on how much you got last year so you should be grand.
