Do you read the terms and conditions?

When you sign up to a site, install a piece of software or anywhere else you 'agree' to terms and conditions?

I think very few people do, yet occasionally on boards.ie and other sites I see people who seem to have a very in-depth knowledge of these and they don't seem to be the owner of the site.

I never felt the need myself to waste an afternoon reading a massive wall of legalese text meself but each to their own I suppose.

    Didn't even read this Poll.

I work in IT. If I read every terms and conditions that popped up then I'd never get any time for boards work done. I may be signing various companies up to who knows what kind of apocolyptic skynetesque schemes but I can live with that if it means not reading that crap.

I voted before reading the OP... :(

it depends on what it is. if it's software then no no definitely no. if it's like a phone contract or something that's not so standard and could very easily have something nasty in there then yes.

Why is there an Atari Jaguar option, you either read the terms & conditions or you don't.

I messed up on this, signed up for bill 12 months and I'm gonna have to break it coz I'm leaving the country. Going to cost me €200 apparently.

Well if it wasn't there there would have been another post saying "where's the Atari Jaguar option". Damned if you do, damned if you don't round here these days.*

    *terms and conditions apply

I always read the t&cs, and if I don't see in small print - "Only a complete twat would sign this", I sign it.

I normally don't when dealing with foreign based companies on the internet, I don't think that they could force a contract on you if terms and conditions were clicked on the internet, how do they know it was not a minor under 18 years who accepted the terms and conditions.

Without fail. I am very selective about what software I use though. If I deem the conditions to be anything less than sanitary with the terms of redistribution or modification etc, into the bin it goes.

Whenever I'm paying for a service, or getting a subscription to something I always go through the T&C's.

When installing software, sometimes I skim through it, other times I'm just not bothered.

I never read them if its software/intallations etc. Click yes without thinking.

If im paying for a service/subscription or anything like that I always do cuz Ive been locked into things before that could have been easily sorted if I didnt blindly agree to a contract without reading their conditions. Eugh. I miss my soul.

    This.

Its especially important to read the T&C's when taking out insurance policies as it's very easy to get screwed.

For insurance/flights and stuff, yes. For everything else, no.

Have you ever tried to read ryanair's terms and conditions?

You will never want to read any again.

    Or a Human CentIpad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,571 ✭✭✭Aoifey!

I normally flick through them to make sure there's no catchs or anything, but don't read every single line. For most sites the terms and conditions are pretty much common sense.

That would be worse. Most iPads will end up in the bin after about two years
