    Hi all,

New to the forums and was hoping someone here may be able to help me. Can you take a seat on an executive committee if you are not at the AGM to state that you would do the job ?

Hi TinyTim55 & welcome to boards,

That would depend on the constitution of the club in question, but most clubs will allow it, you might have to state your intention of going for a post in written form or have a proxy attend in your place.

Agree with you there as most clubs have taken there club constitution from the GAA template. Just to make everything official I would advise you to write a letter for the AGM and get two club members to sign it. Stating that you would like to run for the position and explain the reason why you can't attend. It was allowed at our AGM last year.

This is the GAA club constitution that the lads above have referred to. Your club more than likely has adopted it. If they have I can't see anything in it that states that you must be present at the AGM in order to be elected.

You can be co-opted onto the executive committee. Normally all officer positions are filled at the agm through a selection process. Attendance at the meeting is not always necessary provide that you have made it known that you wish to be considered for a position and that you nomination someone to make this known at the AGM even if you are not present in person.
