Anyone get this done, anywhere in Wicklow/Dublin, what price per club?

Does it work, much of a difference?

I have same L and S W for probably 5 years now, say its well worn!

    Cheers

Gary Hall (Professional) has a shop in Edenderry town and re grooves clubs. My son got his lob wedge re grooved recently and it has made a big difference. I think it cost €5.00

Why not do it yourself? You can pick up a groove sharpener on ebay from about €11 and it's a fairly easy process, lots of videos on youtube.

Is it not better to have it done by a professional/experienced person?

Never been to Edenderry ..... don't plan on going anytime soon..... do you buy new wedges every few months....is that why your scores are so good this year:D

    BUMP

groove sharpeners.... can a careful lay-person use one of these such that it is effective?

or would i do more damage than good?

or are they a pile a crap?

have seen my club pro use them on clubs... looks pretty straight forward.

These are fine and easy to use yourself on wedges. They are made from hardened steel and you use oil to assist in the sharpening process. Care is required when at the ends of the grooves as the sharpener will score your nice shiny iron if it hops out of the groove at the end.

    DIY job.

The problem with re-grooving clubs manually is how to ensure that the club still conforms with R&A rules.
I would suggest that this is not practicable for the ordinary person to do.
Relevant extract from R&A rules is:

4-1 - Form and Make of Clubs
    b. Wear and Alteration
A club that conforms with the Rules when new is deemed to conform after wear through normal use. Any part of a club that has been purposely altered is regarded as new and must, in its altered state, conform with the Rules.
