So my wifes younger brother had a serious operation a few years ago (not employers fault) and later because of his employer asking him to do work (very physical) that wasn't his actual job the operation had to be performed again causing more damage and means my brother in law couldn't do his old job anymore so was let go.

He brought this to the attention of his union and they are taking a claim against the employer on his behalf. That was 5 years ago.

There seems to be absolutely no rush whatsoever on this and it's really beginning to frustrate him. Surely something like this can't possibly take this long ? How long does a case like this take on average ?

Apologies if this is common knowledge here but I know nothing about legal affairs. I'd very much appreciate any answer. Thank you.

It can take a long period of time. Some personal injury case run on for more than 10 years, although they are the exception.

Best option would be to get the union to write to or meet your brother.

Is the union using a solicitor?
